AYS Has Highly Trained Staff

Campers who use our before- and after-school programs will see some familiar faces. Many camp counselors are current AYS program staff, as well as some new faces who have joined our team for the summer. AYS hires individuals to work at our camps who have experience, a passion for kids, and enjoy being outdoors. All AYS staff go through a drug test, TB test, and several criminal background checks.

Camp counselors receive training in First Aid, child development, conflict resolution, team building, and overall safety to ensure that your child has a great summer experience. Counselor-camper ratios are low to allow for a variety of small group activities. CPR certified staff member are always on site.

This year, counselors will receive “endorsements” during their training prior to summer camp. Counselors can be endorsed in Science, Health/Fitness, Environmental Ed, and/or Arts Enrichment. Each summer location will have at least one person endorsed in each of these areas.
