AYS
MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAM In 2000 AYS initiated the AYStars
arts enrichment program with weekly artist visits in five AYS sites. After collaborating
with Putumayo World Music in 2001, AYS developed a multicultural focus for the
program and provided instruction in the visual arts of Africa, Asia, Europe and
the Americas; established artist residencies for Japanese Suzuki Violin, Brazilian
Capoeira martial arts and African drumming; and initiated the annual AYS Mardi
Gras Mambo Parade.
In
2006 AYS created the Multicultural Education Program to provide quality multicultural
and interdisciplinary instruction in the visual and performing arts. The program
will focus on process through skill development and cultural appreciation and
share children's achievements with the community through exhibitions and performances.
LIVING
YARNS AYS
is pleased to offer "Living Yarns" for our Robert Frost Elementary program.
"Living Yarns" is a project that uses art to capture the importance
of family in the lives of children. Using a variety of materials, children will
create portraits and stories of a family member that has had a positive influence
in their lives. Click link below for more information.
This
program is made possible with support from the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the
Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts,
a federal agency.
