The students in AYS’ Forest Hill Elementary program walked all the way to the middle of Brazil! In an effort to combine physical fitness with geographic and cultural awareness, Program Director Trish Kearschner has recorded the children’s physical activity each day and translated the amount of activity and number of children participating into miles “walked.” As the miles added up, the distance was measured with a string on a map of North and South America. Enrichment activities were planned in association with the region to which the children had walked. The children have walked 21,164 miles since September.
