Students
at Hinkle Creek AYS Study Chinese Culture
Leslie
Hankins
When
you walk into the AYS program at Hinkle Creek, you will feel as if you have just
been teleported to the other side of the world. The room even has two Chinese
restaurants, where students can use their own chopsticks to sample
authentic Chinese treats. The staff and students have decorated the room in the
spirit of China to match their Mardi Gras Mambo Parade Krewes theme.
The programs curriculum
includes much more than just creating Chinese-style masks for the parade. Information
on Chinese history, culture, and language are posted throughout the room. Some
students have also formed a Chinese cooking club. Menu items include wontons,
fried rice, and fruit kabobs.
