AYS Programs Celebrate Lights On After School Day

Mayor John Ditslear Honors AYS' Hazel Dell Elementary ProgramIn recognition of National Lights On After School Day on October 12, Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear honored AYS’ Hazel Dell Elementary program with a visit. The Mayor read a proclamation of his support for after-school programs and then joined the children for cookies while answering the children’s many questions.

Lights On is a day to create awareness of the need for quality after-school programs. To celebrate Lights On, AYS programs hold special events for parents and children to enjoy together, including:

  • Valley Mills held a dinner and dance.
  • St. Francis and Clare had a Hawaiian-themed hula dance and dinner.
  • St. Louis de Montfort had a parent night with dancing, singing and games.
  • IPS #70 made candles.
  • North Salem made lightbulbs to display in their school and community.
  • Speedway Newby had a balloon launch.
  • West Newton had a South of the Border themed evening.
  • Allisonville did an arts activity.
  • Crooked Creek had a talent show.
  • Greenbriar had music and special treats.
  • Decatur Intermediate Learning Center had a South of the Border themed evening.
  • St. Luke had games and snacks.
  • St. Maria Goretti made crafts and played games.
  • Nora had an open house with refreshments, crafts and games.
  • IPS #91 made puppets.
  • John Strange had drumming and games.
  • Spring Mill played games.
  • Fox Hill played games and made crafts.
  • Speedway Allison had a balloon launch.
  • Harcourt held a kids vs. parents basketball game.
  • Wyandotte had cookies and punch.
  • St. Thomas painted mini-pumpkins and colored lightbulbs.
  • Forest Hill made crafts and lightbulbs
  • White River made crafts
  • Hinkle Creek had an open house for parents.
  • Stony Creek had crafts and contests.
  • North had crafts.
  • Stony Creek School Age had a Parent Night program with songs
