AYS
Holds Pasta Drive to Benefit Second Helpings
-Leslie
Hankins
Boxes
of elbow macaroni, spaghetti and other pastas were piling up in AYS' administrative
office in June. AYS participated in Second Helpings' Pasta Drive and collected
123.5 lbs. of pasta for the non-profit agency. From June 1-22, administrative
staff and two Camp AYS sites donated pasta for the drive.
Second
Helpings rescues prepared and perishable foods from local businesses and then
re-prepares the food for distribution to over 50 agencies that feed the hungry.
The agency also offers a training program for disadvantaged adults to learn marketable
skills in the culinary arts. More than 200 adults have graduated from the program.
Because
pasta is a non-perishable food item, the agency rarely receives it as part of
its food rescue program. However, many recipes call for the Italian staple.
AYS
programs and the administrative office often participate in community service
activities, such as collecting items for the troops and adopting families during
the holidays. Thank you to the following for participating in the Pasta Drive:
