AYS Holds Pasta Drive to Benefit Second Helpings

Boxes of elbow macaroni, spaghetti and other pastas were piling up in AYS' administrative office in June. AYS participated in Second Helpings' Pasta Drive and collected 123.5 lbs. of pasta for the non-profit agency. From June 1-22, administrative staff and two Camp AYS sites donated pasta for the drive.

Second Helpings rescues prepared and perishable foods from local businesses and then re-prepares the food for distribution to over 50 agencies that feed the hungry. The agency also offers a training program for disadvantaged adults to learn marketable skills in the culinary arts. More than 200 adults have graduated from the program.

Because pasta is a non-perishable food item, the agency rarely receives it as part of its food rescue program. However, many recipes call for the Italian staple.

AYS programs and the administrative office often participate in community service activities, such as collecting items for the troops and adopting families during the holidays. Thank you to the following for participating in the Pasta Drive:
