Peace
Posse at John Strange
Leslie
Hankins
On
January 20, 17 AYS students graduated from the AYS Peace Posse at John StrangeElementary.
The two-week violence prevention program led by AYS employee Lisa Murrell traveled
to each Washington Township AYS program, beginning with Fox Hill Elementary and
ending with John Strange.
Graduation
began with the students reciting the "Peace Posse Pledge." Then, each
student spoke about what he or she learned in the Peace Posse. Responses included
teamwork, self-esteem, self-control, communication, cooperation, helping others
and asking for help from others. Each student received a certificate to show that
he or she was a member of the Peace Posse.
Each
Peace Posse will continue as a club with the aid of program staff. Murrell will
visit each of the schools again throughout second semester. The students will
create t-shirts and practice a drill team routine that will be showcased at Eastwood
Middle School on April 21 at 7:00 PM.
