Methodist
Medical Group, a division of Clarian Health Partners, recently awarded Michelle
Schafer, an AYS board member and the mother of two AYS children, with a "Splash"
award. The award, given to employees who volunteer in the community, shows MMG's
commitment to community service and employee recognition.
Michelle,
the director of Behavioral Health Network Services at MMG, joined the AYS board
in 2004. She appreciated knowing that her children were in an AYS program while
she was at work and wanted to give back to the agency. "As a working mom,
I face many of the same challenges as a lot of families, and AYS has provided
me with a sense of peace and security that is impossible to put into words,"
she said. "No matter what, I always tell my children that they are my FIRST
priority. AYS and MMG help me keep my promise to them everyday."
Michelle
says that she appreciates a flexible employer that allows her the time to give
back to her community and be there for special moments in her children's lives,
such as an honor roll breakfast she attended recently for her daughter. "AYS
provides a safe, supportive and happy environment in which to leave my daughter,"
she said. "MMG provides me with a wonderful place to work and the flexibility
that I need as a working parent."
Michelle
has been an active board member for AYS. A few of her contributions include presenting
at the 2006 AYS fall conference, participating in the AYS Mardi Gras Mambo parades,
and taking part in AYS' current Organizational Sustainability and Capacity Building
project. AYS appreciates Michelle's dedication, as well as supportive employers
like MMG who encourage their employees to make a difference in the community.
