AYS Student Artwork to Join Traveling Exhibit

Campers at Camp AYS’ First Meridian Heights location will have the opportunity for their original artwork to join a national traveling exhibit. The campers will work together to create a 4’x6’ panel for AFSC’ exhibit, Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan, after first visiting the exhibit at Earth House Collective in early June. The Camp AYS panel will be installed at Earth House on June 15 and travel with the exhibit to Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco beginning June 24.

The exhibit currently consists of 45 panels created by international artists and students. According to AFSC, a Quaker organization devoted to service, development and peace programs, the exhibit is “a statement on the human cost of war. It is not the voice of one person, but that of an engaged artistic community. Their collective voice comes through with power and volume, speaking to us on both intellectual and emotional levels.”

AYS was asked to participate in this project by the Program Director of the Indiana Peacebuilding Program, an affiliate of the American Friends Service Committee, after viewing the AYS Living Yarns display at the Earth House Collective.
