Who: Sue Turner, Program Director at Crooked Creek

Years of Experience: 22 years with AYS

Favorite Color: Purple

Favorite Season: Loves all the seasons for different reasons. “I love the change each one brings.”

Favorite Ice Cream: Lemon ice cream, especially lemon custard

Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of working with AYS?

A: I think there is continuity here. They do a good job with supplying us with materials for the kids to do things. I have never been denied doing any project I have wanted to do. I have been blessed with good staff, and that’s what makes it great.

Q: What is the most memorable AYS story from your time here?

A: I will see kids out in the community on the weekends. The kindergarteners are so spontaneous and when they see me out, they always run out and say, “Miss Sue, Miss Sue!” It makes you feel like a celebrity. That’s one thing that’s really neat.

Q: Why are the kids special?

A: I’m always learning. The older I get, the more I see I need to learn. I enjoy teaching them. I enjoy seeing the lightbulbs in their faces when they have learned something and when they are able to discover new things. They’re so excited about it.
