This is one part in a series of posts about Camp AYS 2017. Visit our general blog page for more wrap-ups.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s AYS! During Flight Week, campers learned about the purposes and parts of multiple aircrafts—from airplanes to helicopters to rockets.
Pittsboro Elementary also visited the Indianapolis Executive Airport in Zionsville. The kids learned about the basic principles of flight and how the airport operates daily. Campers even saw planes take off and land. A pilot showed them the different parts of the planes, and each child got to sit in the cockpit and show off their flying skills—well, pretend to anyway.
North Elementary visited Shelbyville Municipal Airport and learned how the facility grew from 80 acres to 520.
Many campers made some aircrafts of their own including baking soda rockets, parachutes and kites.
