Who: Coltin Metzger, program director at IPS 91
When: 2 years (first year as a program director)
Favorite color: My favorite color is blue. I think because it reminds me of the sky, I’ve always loved traveling and flying and to me it reminds me of those things.
Favorite season: Summer is my favorite season. Even when it gets too hot to handle, I’d rather be in a tank top and flip flops sweating than bundled up in the cold and snow. I love being able to go swimming or do outdoor things so summer is perfect for that!
Favorite ice cream: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my favorite because who doesn’t love cookie dough?
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of working with AYS?
A: Getting to spend time with these kids each day is rewarding in itself. I love seeing kids engaged in activities and watching their eyes light up as they experiment with things or learn new concepts.
Q: How have you seen yourself grow during your time with AYS?
A: I think I have definitely grown in a number of ways. I have found a voice so-to-speak as a leader, having to maintain a large group of kids as well as a staff. [I] have honed my organizational skills to balance all my AYS work and school work (and still get some sleep each night).
Q: What is the most memorable story during your time at AYS?
A: One of my most memorable times at AYS was during one of our community service projects last year where we partnered with PeaPod to learn about healthy food choices and donate to a local food bank. It was so rewarding to watch the kids apply the knowledge they had learned about both healthy food and budgeting to pick out food items to be delivered to a local food bank. It was a great project!
